EN standards for electrical cables

THE EN standards for electrical cables, developed by CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), define the technical and safety requirements applicable to cables in the European Union. They aim to harmonize rules in order to guarantee uniform safety standards and facilitate the free movement of products.. Cables conforming to EN standards and tested according to requirements can obtain CE marking, guaranteeing their free circulation on the European market.

Unlike IEC standards, which serve as a global reference, EN standards adapt these international requirements to the European market. Each member country then transposes the EN standards into its own national system : For example, NF standards in France or DIN/VDE in Germany correspond directly to EN standards.
