Which cable to choose ? summary
- THHN cable : Lightweight and economical, this copper cable for dry indoor use is widely used in electrical cabinets. Attention : not very resistant to humidity, it is not suitable for outdoor installations.
- RHW‑2 cable : Thanks to its thick XLPE insulation, This is a heat resistant cable, humidity and underground conditions. Ideal for industrial environments and buried conduits.
- USE‑2 cable : This outdoor electrical cable is designed for direct ground laying and residential main power lines. Its robust construction makes it a safe choice for outdoor low-voltage networks.
- XHHW cable : Suitable for general building wiring. However, its performance remains limited in humid or prolonged outdoor environments.
- XHHW‑2 copper cable : The ultimate versatile choice. This copper electrical cable, certified for use at 600/1000V, resists humidity, to heat and UV. Recommended for modern projects requiring flexibility, durability and compliance with UL/CSA/NEMA standards.
If your installation concerns a humid area (like underground conduits, pumping stations or exterior passages exposed to water), it is strongly recommended to opt for the XHHW‑2 copper cable. This model offers better thermal stability, excellent moisture resistance and increased safety margins for demanding environments.
For strictly dry areas, the old XHHW cable can theoretically be sufficient for use up to 90°C. However, taking into account long-term maintenance cost and modern safety standards, the XHHW‑2 remains the most reliable and durable solution.
